Weekday Food Hunting in Ipoh – A Short & Delicious Getaway
This week, I decided to take a quick weekday getaway to Ipoh with my parents for one main purpose — food hunting. We left Kuala Lumpur in the morning and arrived just in time for lunch, ready to dive straight into Ipoh’s famous flavors.
Day 1 – Lunch to Supper
Our first stop was my all-time favorite whenever I’m in Ipoh — Funny Mountain Tau Fu Fah. Smooth, silky, and lightly sweet, it’s a must-eat that never disappoints.
Next, we headed to Tuck Kee Restaurant for their well-known Moonlight Hor Fun and Braised Chicken Feet. The silky noodles topped with a raw egg yolk were heavenly, while the chicken feet were packed with rich, savory flavor.
Dinner was at the famous Sipu Claypot Chicken Rice. We ordered Claypot Chicken Rice, Claypot Lou Si Fun, and a plate of crispy fried meat. The smoky aroma from the claypot made the meal extra satisfying.
For supper, we couldn’t resist trying the viral Kampung Lurou braised pork with egg and tofu, served inside Restoran Kam Wan Aneka Selera food court. Alongside it, we also sampled some of the best ikan bakar in town — fresh, aromatic, and grilled to perfection.
Day 2 – Morning to Goodbye
We started the day with my father’s pick — Majie Dry Curry Noodles, a recipe that’s been around for over 70 years and passed down through generations. The thick curry and perfectly cooked noodles were pure comfort food.
For lunch, we made our way to Pin Sim Sing Kee to enjoy their old-school roast duck and the famous stir-fried noodle San Si Mian. The roast duck had salty skin with tender meat, while the noodles were full of smoky wok hei and crispy fried wan tan.
Before heading back to KL, I made a quick stop at Restoran Wonderfull Honey Chicken to buy my daughter’s favorite — frozen honey chicken — so she could enjoy a little taste of Ipoh at home. And I still manage to order some Crispy Fried Chicken skin to bites.
It was a short trip, but packed with good memories, great flavors, and family time. Ipoh never fails to satisfy my food cravings, and I’m already looking forward to my next food-hunting adventure there.
